Cong. Smith Meets with N.J. Students
Washington,
Jul 19, 2012 -
Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04) met today with students and teachers from Colts Neck, Monmouth County, N.J.
Smith spoke to the group in his congressional office in Washington, D.C., discussing a range of issues, including Lyme disease, human trafficking, and serving in public office. He answered questions about writing and introducing bills, turning bills into law through the legislative and amendment process, the impact small businesses have on the U.S. economy, international human rights and Smith’s work helping individuals like Monmouth County residents David and Sean Goldman, who reunited after five years of separation after Sean was abducted to Brazil.
The group began their visit with a tour of the Capitol building, including a visit to the Gallery of the House of Representatives. On Wednesday, highlights included a visit to Arlington Cemetery and a Mets v. Nationals game at Nationals Park. The students will wrap up the trip with visits to the Holocaust Museum and the National Mall, among other sites.
Smith, a senior member of Congress, represents large parts of Monmouth County, as well as large areas of Mercer, Burlington and Ocean counties. He is the Dean of the New Jersey Delegation, and chairs several panels that deal with human rights, global health and other issues.
