Hurricane Sandy breached land between the Atlantic and Barnegat Bay in Mantoloking, Ocean Co., N.J. Numerous homes were washed away.

COLTS NECK, NJ, Nov 2, 2012 - Federal Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Richard Serino came to the Fourth Congressional District Thursday to meet with Congressmen Chris Smith (NJ-04) and Jon Runyon of (NJ-03) at FEMA’s facility at Earle Naval Weapons Station in Colts Neck, N.J.

    Smith also participated in an aerial damage-assessment tour of the region with Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.

    “The damage looks awful from the ground and it looks even worse from the air,” Smith said. “People are suffering and we need to work together at all levels of government to make progress.”

    Serino talked about FEMA’s efforts to move generators into the state, as well as emergency housing, fuel supplies for response efforts and other issues.

    “We have programs to help people,” Serino said. “We have a lot of resources pouring in to get the power back up.”
