  • Cong. Smith visits Jacob, an American held for 18 months in prison without charge or bail, in Bolivia in December 2012.

  • Cong. Smith, right, led a delegation to Bolivia from Dec. 6-9. From left are U.S. Charge D'Affaires Lawrence Lemmott, Cong. Velazquez and Jacob.

The continuing struggle of Jacob Ostreicher, an American businessman detained without formal charges for over 18 months in Bolivia, will be the focus of a bipartisan press conference Thursday, following a court hearing this week in Bolivia that concluded with yet again no decision on Jacob’s release or bail.

Members of a bipartisan congressional delegation who visited Jacob in Bolivia last weekend and met with Bolivian government officials to press for his release will address the hopes for justice and prospects for release. They will be joined by the victim’s family members.

Who:               Congressman Chris Smith, Chairman of the House’s human rights subcommittee, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (NY-12), and the wife, daughter and grandchildren of Jacob Ostreicher.

What:              Press conference on Jacob Ostreicher’s unjust imprisonment in Bolivia.

When:             Thursday, Dec. 13 @ 1:30 p.m.

Where:            The House Triangle, which is located outdoors in the grassy triangle area on the Capitol Building's East Front lawn, off Independence Ave. near New Jersey Ave. Click here for a photo of the triangle and location.
