Smith Appears on 'The World Over' to Discuss SyriaEWTN show host Raymond Arroyo discusses Smith resolution to pursue war criminals in Syria
Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04) appeared as a guest on EWTN's news program "The World Over" Thursday to discuss President Obama's plan to attack Syrian.
The New Jersey Congressman is a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He and host Raymond Arroyo talked about the debate in Congress on a potential U.S. military action in Syria after the recent use of chemical weapons in that country's bloody civil war. They also talked about Smith's plan to introduce a bipartisan Syrian War Crimes Tribunal Resolution next week. At a Capitol Hill hearing yesterday, Smith questioned Secretary of State John Kerry about the Administration’s weak record on human rights, especially and including in Syria. Smith pointed to a September 3rd New York Times editorial that said it was “alarming” that President Obama did not “long ago put into place, with our allies and partners, a plan for international action.” Click here or on image above to watch the program. The segment featuring Smith follows the lead news, approx. 8 minutes into the broadcast. The NYT’s use of the word “alarming” underscored how the Obama Administration “failed over the course over the last several years to do what ought to have been done. That’s a New York Times editorial—hardly a conservative newspaper,” said Smith at the hearing yesterday. In June Smith chaired a hearing on human rights abuses in Syria entitled “Religious Minorities in Syria: Caught in the Middle,” Click here to read the witnesses statements, or to watch the hearing. |
