U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04), co-chair of the House Bipartisan Pro-Life Caucus, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court decision today:
“Today the Supreme Court, which is frequently divided, unanimously rejected President Obama’s oppressive regulation and instructed lower courts to find a real solution for religious groups that do not want to violate their conscience. This Obamacare mandate has been subject to repeated challenges in the courts for years for violating the religious liberty of groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor.
“Today’s ruling marks another critical step forward in the effort protect Americans who choose to live according to their faith from the coercion of the Obama Administration. The lower courts now have a duty to protect the rights of the Little Sisters of the Poor and others, so they may live according to their conscience and faith.”
