The Fight for victims of Superstorm Sandy
Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04) took to the floor of the House repeatedly in January 2013 calling for House members across the country to support of the federal aid package for victims of Superstorm Sandy. Though the huge mega-storm slammed a large section of the East Coast--including New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the nation--and nearby New York and Connecticut, Sandy made landfall and the eye of the storm hit in Monmouth and Ocean counties in his district, wreaking havoc on thousands of Rep. Smith's constituents. In the largest natural disaster in New Jersey history, Sandy destroyed tens of thousands of homes and businesses, as well as public infrastructure and transportation.
