MANCHESTER — Eighty-four units of rental housing will be available for senior citizens with very low incomes, thanks to an $800,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York.
The affordable housing grant is going to Presbyterian Homes and Services Senior Living Inc. for the construction of the Presbyterian Home at Manchester.
"Presbyterian Home will provide low-income seniors with handicapped-accessible homes and access to assistance for daily living activities," said Rep. Christopher H. Smith, R-N.J., who has been supporting the project since May 2007. Ten percent of the units will be set aside for handicapped individuals.
The home will be supervised by an on-site service coordinator, and the supportive services offered will range from socialization and health screening programs to assistance with daily tasks such as shopping, housekeeping, meal preparation and transportation.
"The Presbyterian Home reflects what is possible when the entire community comes together to provide accessible, affordable housing for those who need it," said Alfred A. DelliBovi, president and CEO of the Federal Home Loan Bank.
Additional financing for the $13.8 million project will come from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and the township.
