  • Congressman Smith meets with Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Carlino and Mrs. Sheri Carlino at the U.S. Coast Guard Manasquan Station in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ on June 7, 2011 to observe the station's mission and discuss Coast Guard issues.

  • U.S. Coast Guard crewman demonstrate the operation of one of their two 47-foot rescue vessels. Congressman Smith led the fight in 2000 to convince the USCG to retain two of the boats at the Manasquan Station as a matter of public safety.

Congressman Chris Smith met with members of the U.S. Coast Guard at the Manasquan Station on June 7. He discussed the station's mission, recent rescues and other USCG issues. He spoke with the commanding officer, his staff and enlisted USCG members at the station, which is located in Manasqaun Inlet.
Smith helped secure the replacement of a motor life boat in 2000, when the USCG decided to remove one of the two larger boats and not replace it. Rep. Smith successfully pressed the Coast Guard to station a newer 47-foot motor lifeboat at the facility. Although Smith agreed with the Coast Guard’s plan to remove the old 44-foot boat, he had objected to Coast Guard intentions to not replace the boat.
Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Carlino has been the commanding officer of both the Station Manasquan and its substation Station Shark River in Avon by the Sea for the past three years. In July he and his wife Sheri are to be stationed in Philadelphia. Carlino will serve as as Executive Officer to the Coast Guard Cutter William Tate in her homeport of Philadelphia.
