  • Cong. Smith, third from left, listens to Gov. Christie explain state preparations for the anticipated Hurricane Sandy. Smith represents a large section along the coast in Ocean and Monmouth counties.

Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04) attended a press conference today to detail preparations for the impending storm Hurricane Sandy, joining New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and federal, state, county and municipal officials and emergency responders.

"Hurricane Sandy is a threat to the lives and safety of New Jersey residents,"Smith said. "The Governor is coordinating a statewide emergency readiness effort across all levels of government. Throughout the storm residents should stay indoors and comply with official advisories."

Smith represents large areas of the Jersey Shore in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, plus large areas along the flood-prone Delaware River from Trenton and Hamilton in Mercer County south to Burlington City in Burlington County.
