HUD Secretary to Meet with Smith, N.J. Delegation on Concerns of Homeowners Victimized by SandyNew Jersey Delegation to Press HUD on Aid for Victims Still Not Back in Their HomesU.S. Rep. Chris Smith, Dean of the N.J. Congressional Delegation, is hosting a meeting between Members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation and Secretary Shaun Donovan of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to discuss questions and concerns from the delegation and state lawmakers as to why the process for helping homeowners recovering from Superstorm Sandy is taking so long. “We want to discuss the best way forward to assist thousands of homeowners who are still waiting to fix and return to their homes nearly a year and half after the October 2012 storm,” said Smith. “It’s all about helping the victims. Over 18 months after Sandy, too many families aren’t back in their homes.” Immediately following the closed meeting will be a brief media availability:
Who: Slated to attend the meeting with Secretary Donovan are Smith (R-04), Dean of the New Jersey Delegation, and New Jersey’s U.S. House Representatives: Frank Lobiondo, (R-02), Jon Runyan, (R-03), Frank Pallone (D-06), Leonard Lance (R-07), Albio Sires (D-08), Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-09), Donald M. Payne Jr. (D-10), Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11), Rush Holt (D-12); and other invited members of Congress. LoBiondo, Runyan, Frelinghuysen and Lance sent a letter to Donovan requesting a N.J. congressional delegation meeting to hear the concerns of the delegation and state lawmakers and work together to solve them.
