Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04) presented Stephanie Giunta, Director of the Steinert High School Marching Unit, and student Hunter Nolan, a flag and a congressional letter of congratulations on the marching unit's 30th anniversary hosting its "Music in Motion" event set for Oct. 19.
Smith made the presentation just prior to the marching band's performance at the Oct. 2 away game against Allentown High School in Monmouth County. He enjoyed the performance and stayed to talk with parents and other residents.
The text of the letter read as follows:
Dear Ms. Stephanie Giunta,
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the members of the Steinert Marching Unit on the 3th Anniversary of the “Music in Motion” Band Festival.
Throughout the years, “Music in Motion” has provided an outlet for the creativity of so many young, talented musicians and has brought the community together. The longevity of this program shows the dedication of the teachers, parents, and students of the Steinert Marching Unit.
As the ancient philosopher Plato said of music, “It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and flight to the imagination…” I commend you on giving flight to the imaginations of so many of our youth through music, and I applaud the high level of expertise demonstrated by your extraordinary marching band.
Congratulations on this important milestone, and best wishes for success in the upcoming “Music in Motion” competition.
Sincerely,
CHRISTOPHER H. SMITH
Member of Congress
