U.S. assistance to foster elections in Africa will be among topics of a House hearing set for Wednesday, March 18 by U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04), chairman of the Africa and global human rights subcommittee. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and several non-government organizations will testify.

 

WHAT:      Congressional hearing entitled “U.S. Election Support in Africa.”

 

WHO:         Smith, members of the Subcommittee on Africa and global human rights, and witnesses:

 

  • Eric G. Postel, Assistant to the Administrator for the Bureau for Africa at the U.S. Agency for International Development;
  • William Sweeney, President and Chief Executive Officer, International Foundation for Electoral Systems;
  • Gretchen Birkle, Regional Director for Africa, International Republican Institute;
  • Eric Robinson, Senior Program Officer for East and Horn of Africa at the National Endowment for Democracy, and;
  • Patrick Merloe, Director of Electoral Programs and Senior Associate, National Democratic Institute.

 

WHEN:          Wednesday, March 18 at 10:15 a.m.
