***Hearing Set for Weds. Sept. 30***Africa’s Notorious Joseph Kony Focus of Congressional Hearing

“Ridding Central Africa of Joseph Kony: Continuing U.S. Support,” is the title of a congressional hearing to be chaired Wednesday by U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04), chairman of the Africa and global human rights subcommittee. The U.S. State Department, and two human rights non-government organizations (NGOs) will testify.     

    “The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) is a deadly armed group that has plagued Uganda where it was formed, as well as neighboring countries, since 1987," said Chairman Chris Smith (NJ-04). "Thousands have been killed, maimed, kidnapped or enslaved during its horrible reign of terror.  As the Administration considers the continuation of its four-year-old U.S. counter-LRA mission, this hearing will examine the ongoing LRA thereat in East and Central Africa and the success of the multi-national effort to end the LRA menace."
