Congressman Chris Smith recently received an award from the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, part of the National Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association, at a meeting with families dealing with Alzheimer’s in February 2017.
The award was presented in February 2017 by Wendy Campbell, President and CEO of the Delaware Valley Chapter, which honored Mr. Smith with a painting symbolizing the struggles of victims of Alzheimer's. An inscription on the framed artwork read:
“Presented to Congressman Chris Smith by the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter for his outstanding leadership in the battle to end Alzheimer’s.” From the left are AA Senior Director Advocacy & Executive Director Katie Macklin, Congressman Smith, Director Campbell.
The piece was done by one of the AA's associates living with Alzheimer's disease. Art therapy can be very beneficial for people living with Alzheimer's, and a therapeutic way for expression.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and leadership that the Congressman has given to Alzheimer's issues,” Macklin said after the meeting. “His work to combat the disease and provide care and support to those affected truly impacts all Americans, and we are incredibly grateful.”
