Smith Lauds Mark Green Selection to Lead USAIDToday, U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04) made the following comments on the nomination of former Congressman Mark Green from Wisconsin to lead the U.S. Agency for International Development: “I am thrilled to see that Mark Green has been nominated by President Donald Trump as the next Administrator of USAID,” said Smith, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “I cannot think of a better leader to head up USAID at this critical time. Mark brings a wealth of experience–as a past colleague on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as a former Ambassador to the critically-important African nation of Tanzania, and as head of the International Republican Institute–to the agency’s mission. At a time when we are faced with multiple humanitarian crises, including four major famine and persecuted populations forced to flee their homes in places such as Iraq and Syria, Mark’s compassion and competence is a tonic for a wounded world. He knows the valuable role played by faith-based organizations in reaching those most in need, and the importance in proactively investing in food security. Plus he will be a great steward of taxpayer funds who won’t be squandering money pursuing political agendas, bringing needed reforms to USAID.” Green served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1999-2007. Smith chairs the House Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organizations Subcommittee. |
