“On this Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we commemorate the more than six million Jewish people murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. That genocide of European Jewish communities was fueled by the persistent, unique evil of anti-Semitism.
“We should honor the dead by never wavering in our solidarity with the living. This requires prioritizing the safety and security of Jewish communities – especially strengthening formal partnerships between Jewish communities and law enforcement agencies or developing these partnerships where they do not yet exist. Anti-Semitic threats from terrorist groups like ISIS and terrorist states like Iran must be confronted. The BDS movement, and other attempts to single out and delegitimize the State of Israel, must also be combated and defeated.
“When vigilance lapses, anti-Semitism can again become common and socially acceptable, as it has in parts of Europe across the political and ideological spectrum. Our commitment to the Jewish people, and the State of Israel, and resolve to fight the evil of anti-Semitism, must never waver.”
