Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) was a guest this morning on NJ 101.5 FM with host Bill Spadea during the morning commute, to discuss the problem of fentanyl illegally exported from China.
Smith chaired a hearing on Thursday on "Tackling Fentanyl: The China Connection," which featured testimony from top officials at the State Department and Drug Enforcement Administration, as well as testimony from Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato on the local problem of fentanyl in the opioid crisis. Smith is a member of the Congressional Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus, and has supported HR 5788, the Synthetics Trafficking and Overdose Prevention Act (STOP Act) of 2018, which would require the USPS to provide advanced electronic data to Customs and Border Protection on international shipping. |
