Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) today joined military officials at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, where construction is now underway for a new Lakehurst Readiness Center designed to aid in the training of Guard members and help maintain equipment and unit readiness for deployment.
The project comes after $15 million in federal funds have been secured to build the new Center for the 250th Brigade Support Battalion—the ground maintenance company for the New Jersey Army National Guard’s largest brigade.
“The new Lakehurst Readiness Center will greatly enhance military operations at the Joint Base and help ensure our Guard members have properly-maintained equipment and the support they need,” said Rep. Smith.
“The federal investment underscores the ongoing and increasing mission-critical value of the Joint Base and helps ensure there remains a vibrant hub for multiple national security missions and programs,” said Smith.
Slated to be completed by September of 2023, the new 40,795 square-foot facility will ensure seamless and continuous maintenance support to the 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during all State Active Duty and federal missions.
The Center was designed by the New Jersey-based construction company Design Resource Group Architects and will be collocated with existing Army National Guard and Army Reserve elements.
