With the strong support and vote of Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester), the House of Representatives on Tuesday night overwhelmingly passed House Resolution 311 to encourage the expansion and strengthening of the historic Abraham Accords that the US signed with Israel in 2020 under President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
“This critical resolution builds on the momentous pact signed by President Trump that brought further strength to Israel and our strongest allies in the region—and strength brings peace,” said Smith, who attended the signing of the original agreements at the White House in September 2020.
“We must continue to urge other nations to normalize relations with Israel as we strive toward a future in which people of all faiths and backgrounds live together in peace and prosperity,” said Smith, an avid supporter of Israel and a fierce advocate for aid to the US ally.
House passage of the legislation—which now moves to the Senate for further consideration—comes just ahead of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel on May 14th.
