Congressman Chris Smith (R-Manchester) addressed a crowd gathered at the New Jersey State House Annex in Trenton, New Jersey Saturday at the New Jersey Right to Life's event marking the one-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
The event featured numerous speakers, including elected federal and state officials, medical professionals, pastors and pro-life leaders and advocates for unborn children from across the Garden State who came to speak up for the unborn. Speakers focused on not only the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, but also on the NJ State Legislature's subsequent radical moves to expand abortion up to the end of the ninth month of pregnancy. Buses from around the state traveled to the state capital to attend the event. Congressman Smith met with other speakers, including Rosemarie Fenchel of the group "More than Sisters," affiliated with the Abortion Survivors Network, a world-wide network offering support for babies who have survived an abortion and their families. The group estimates over 1,700 babies survive an abortion attempt every year in the United States alone. Ms. Fenchel gave a moving account of how she survived an abortion to a crowd of several hundred citizens. Many years ago, her mother, now 91, tried to have a doctor abort her and one of her sisters unsuccessfully. The mother, who accented to Ms. Fenchel sharing her account, regretted her attempts and said she tried to end the pregnancies because she was in a desperate situation. Smith was introduced to the crowd by NJRTL Executive Director, Marie Tasy. |
