Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) today issued the following statement on the stopgap legislation (HR 5860) passed by the House of Representatives in a vote of 335-91 to prevent a government shutdown and a funding lapse for US servicemembers, border patrol agents, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers and other critical law enforcement officials, as well as essential health and humanitarian services:

            “The stopgap measure passed by the House today with overwhelming support will ensure our veterans continue to receive critical health care and services.

            It will also ensure our amazing military men and women who serve in uniform, outstanding border patrol agents, TSA officers and other law enforcement officials will continue to receive paychecks for their incredible work to defend our nation and protect our communities.

            I look forward to continuing our work on Monday to pass individual, single-subject appropriations bills that rein in wasteful government spending and secure our border.”
