House overwhelmingly reaffirms US support for Israel and condemns the barbaric terrorist attacks by Hamas With the strong support of Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Co-Chair of the Israel Allies Caucus, the House of Representatives today overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan resolution (HRes 771) reaffirming US support for Israel and condemning the barbaric terrorist attacks by Hamas. “Our great friend, and ally Israel—with significant assistance from the United States—continues to respond to the cowardly Hamas invasion that includes Hamas psychotic terrorists butchering innocent civilians, rape, hostage taking, the beheading of babies and daily indiscriminate missile attacks that are reminiscent of Nazi buzz bombs and V-2 rockets,” Rep. Smith said during his speech on the House Floor in support of the resolution. “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said in the past that he would never allow a second holocaust,” said Smith. “Nor should we.” “The United States—and all people committed to human rights and the rule of law—must stand with Israel,” said Smith, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Global Human Rights Subcommittee. “That means our moral support and prayers,” Smith continued. “That means ensuring that critical intelligence be shared, and every weapon system needed to destroy Hamas—including the Iron Dome defense system—is conveyed to Israel in quantities commensurate to the challenge and without delay.” Smith, who serves as Co-Chair of the House Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, made clear that antisemitism is at the root of the Hamas violence against Israel and every Jewish man, woman, and child. “Antisemitism—absolute hatred of Israel and Jews—is the reason for this genocide,” said Smith, who cited articles of the Hamas Charter that explicitly demand the absolute destruction of the state of Israel, the slaughter of all Jews and the rejection of initiatives for peace and reconciliation. “Israel’s right to defend itself from this brutal invasion is absolute,” Smith said. ### |
