Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester), Co-Chair of the House Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, today reaffirmed his strong support for House Resolution 894—Strongly condemning and denouncing the drastic rise of antisemitism in the United States and around the world.
“Israel is the only state in the world whose fundamental right to exist, within any borders at all, is openly denied by other states,” said Smith, Co-Chair of the Israel Allies Caucus. “Some of them including Iran even call for Israel’s complete destruction and support transnational terrorist organizations to work toward its destruction.”
“The antisemitism motivating those who deny Israel’s right to exist is apparent, but it is important to connect, as this resolution does, anti-Zionism to antisemitism and to connect them both as enabling causes to the monstrous crimes Hamas has unleashed on Israel,” said Smith.
Authored by Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN), House Resolution 894 states that the House:
· strongly condemns and denounces all instances of antisemitism occurring in the United States and globally;
· reaffirms and reiterates its strong support for the Jewish community at home and abroad;
· calls on elected officials and world leaders to condemn and fight all forms of domestic and global antisemitism;
· clearly and firmly states that anti-Zionism is antisemitism; and
· rejects all forms of terror, hate, discrimination, and harassment of members of the Jewish community.
“Now more than ever, people of conscience must stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters against the evils of antisemitism,” said Smith. “I thank my good friend from Tennessee, David Kustoff, for introducing this extremely important resolution.”
