Rep. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) today issued the following statement on President Biden’s too little, too late executive action on immigration amid the ongoing crisis at the US southern border:

            “President Biden has lied time and again to the American people, falsely claiming he could do nothing to secure our border.

            Now, worried about his election prospects, he has issued a feeble executive action that fails to fully secure the border and excludes significant provisions needed to stop the growing national security and humanitarian crisis.

            As House Speaker Mike Johnson has pointed out, Biden has taken at least 64 executive actions—including revoking Trump immigration policies on day one—to create the wide-open, lawless border we have today.

            Biden isn’t fooling anyone with his election year trick.

            Last year, House Republicans passed comprehensive legislation—HR 2—that would have ended the catastrophe at our border and ensured that all those traveling to the country are properly vetted and processed, but Biden and Senate Democrats rejected it.

            It is as clear as day that Biden—who has let this disaster spiral out of control beyond reckoning—is not serious about ending the crisis at our border.”
