***Congressional Hearing Set for Tues., March 25***'Smith to chair hearing on China’s role in conflict & exploitation of Africa’s resources'U.S. Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04), chairman of the House Foreign Affair Committee’s Africa subcommittee, will chair a congressional hearing on "Metals, Minerals, and Mining: How the CCP Fuels Conflict and Exploitation in Africa." The hearing will examine the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) involvement in Africa’s mining sector and its impact on human rights, labor exploitation, and regional stability for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia and Ghana. Witnesses will provide insights into how Beijing’s resource-driven policies contribute to child forced labor and geopolitical tensions across the continent. The hearing will discuss strategies to counter the CCP’s controversial and exploitative practices and uphold more ethical sourcing of metals and critical minerals vital to global supply chains, and to economies of the continent.
