Smith cosponsors congressional resolution honoring the life and legacy of Charlie KirkRep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) has signed on as an original cosponsor of legislation (H.Res.719) honoring and remembering the life, legacy, and leadership of Charlie Kirk following his horrific assassination on Thursday, September 10, 2025. The legislation, introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), is expected to be voted upon by the full House today. “The assassination of Charlie Kirk is an unimaginable tragedy,” said Smith, a senior lawmaker in the U.S. House of Representatives. “Charlie’s senseless killing is not only an assault on his strong political and moral beliefs and unrelenting reverence to constitutional principles—it is also an affront to the American values of civil discourse and respectful debate.” H.Res.719 condemns the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk, thanks law enforcement authorities and first responders for their unyielding pursuits of justice, extends condolences to his young family, and memorializes his life, leadership, and legacy. The legislation calls upon all citizens to embrace American values and reject political violence in all forms. “This legislation reflects the U.S. House of Representatives’ unwavering commitment to keep Charlie’s indomitable spirit, conservative values, and unifying messages alive in our country,” stated Smith. “Charlie Kirk was a young, bright, articulate, and captivating citizen-leader, who loved America deeply and believed that our best days were still ahead,” said Smith. “A fierce advocate for open dialogue and the power of ideas, he possessed a special gift for motivating young Americans, challenging them to debate during the signature ‘prove me wrong’ events of the organization he founded, Turning Point USA. “In his name, let us recommit ourselves to emphatically rejecting and ending all forms of political violence, as well as continuing to practice our God-given rights to speak freely and responsibly. “While those diametrically opposed to contrary views may attempt to silence others with whom they disagree, objective truth will always prevail. “Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk.” ### Contact: |
