Press Release

Pro-Life Caucus Co-Chairs applaud major pro-life victories under Trump Administration

Washington, Jan 26, 2026 | comments

Today, the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus—Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ), Andy Harris (R-MD), Michelle Fischbach (R-MN), Kat Cammack (R-FL), and Bob Onder (R-MO)—thanked President Trump for the strong pro-life actions taken by his Administration on the week of the 53rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision:

“President Trump has acted decisively to ensure that hard-earned taxpayer dollars are not used to bankroll the abortion industry domestically or internationally, or to finance the barbaric practice of using the body parts of aborted babies for research. The President has also taken steps to consider better research options than human embryonic stem cells and to protect conscience rights for health care providers and patients. We thank President Trump for his pro-life leadership and look forward to continuing to work with his Administration in the second session of the 119th Congress to provide unborn children, their mothers, and their families with the support and protection they deserve.”

Between January 21-23, 2026, the Trump Administration made the following announcements:

  • The Department of State announced that it was reinstating and expanding the Mexico City Policy to protect U.S. foreign assistance from subsidizing organizations that promote elective abortion.
  • The National Institutes of Health announced that, for all NIH-supported research, it will now redirect funding away from human fetal tissue research and instead focus on other studies with greater potential to develop treatments and cures.
  • NIH announced that it has paused the review and approval of new human embryonic stem cell lines for its registry while undertaking a Request for Information on emerging biotechnologies that could reduce or replace human embryonic stem cells.
  • The Small Business Administration announced that it would review over $88 million in Planned Parenthood Paycheck Protection Program Loans.
  • The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) sent a notice of violation to the state of Illinois regarding a law requiring providers to counsel or refer for abortion, despite moral or religious objections.
  • HHS OCR provided an open letter describing the conscience provisions in federal law that protect providers and patients.
  • HHS OCR issued three public notices rescinding or rejecting pro-abortion policies promoted under President Joe Biden.
