Smith Secures Federal Funding for Key Infrastructure and Environmental Projects Across Monmouth County''Belmar, Eatontown, Middletown/Red Bank, and countywide public safety projects included as part of $23.8M federal investment across Ocean and Monmouth.'By Jim Lonergan WASHINGTON, D.C. — Several municipalities across Monmouth County will receive significant federal funding for infrastructure, environmental, and public safety improvements through earmarks secured by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) in the recently approved consolidated federal budget. Overall, the legislation includes more than $23.8 million in federal funding for infrastructure and humanitarian initiatives across Ocean and Monmouth counties, with multiple high-impact projects located in Monmouth County. “This funding will deliver meaningful improvements to public safety, water quality, transportation, and storm resilience for communities across Monmouth County,” said Smith. “These projects address long-standing needs and help prepare our towns for the future.” Belmar Borough will receive $1,000,000 to address critical water quality issues at Silver Lake, a coastal lake located just west of the Atlantic Ocean. The funding will support installation of a sustainable living shoreline, improved stormwater filtration, restoration of native plants and wildlife, and enhanced resilience against flooding and environmental degradation. Covenant House New Jersey will receive $247,000 to launch a comprehensive, statewide human trafficking prevention initiative for schools. The program will focus on education, early intervention, and expanded access to support services, helping protect vulnerable youth and prevent exploitation across New Jersey, including communities throughout Monmouth County. Eatontown Township will receive $1,000,000 to fund infrastructure repairs and improvements surrounding Wampum Lake, including lowering water levels ahead of storm events and upgrading nearby roadways to modern compliance standards. The project aims to reduce recurring flood damage to homes, businesses, roads, and recreational areas. Middletown Township / Red Bank Borough will receive $2,000,000 to restore and improve Shadow Lake, an 80-acre man-made flood mitigation and stormwater management pond within the Navesink River system. The project will strengthen flood control, improve water quality, and enhance stormwater management for surrounding communities. Monmouth County will receive $540,000 for the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office to acquire upgraded communications equipment, improving interoperability between county law enforcement, emergency management, and local first responders. Additionally, $2,000,000 will be used to address safety and congestion issues along County Road 537, one of the county’s most heavily traveled corridors. “These investments reflect the diverse infrastructure and environmental needs of Monmouth County communities,” Smith added. “I am proud to have secured funding that will deliver real, lasting benefits for residents.” The remaining portion of the $23.8 million federal funding package will support additional infrastructure and humanitarian projects in Ocean County, benefiting communities throughout New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District. |
